## Real-Time Scan Support

During the scan process there are a number of real-time checks that occur to ensure a face is in the outline, and the measurements are being recorded.

If those checks determine the criteria are not being met, a contextual message will be presented to the user so they can improve and self solve to meet the criteria.

After the message has shown, the scan will restart at the calibration step.

## The Scan Guide

As intuitive as Advanced Human Intelligence’s scans are, there are still some requirements for your users in order to get accurate, repeatable, and error-free scans. We recommend incorporating a Scan Guide to educate your users on how to take a scan so they have an error-free experience and get great results.

### Essential Points to Make to Users

| **Essential Points** | **Why?** | **What could happen if not followed?** |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| They need to hold or place their phone in a steady position and keep their face in the outline for 30 seconds | The whole scan takes 30 seconds. We track key areas on the face so slight movement (like breathing) is okay. | The scan will cancel if we don’t detect a face. The results can also be less accurate if there’s too much movement |
| Their face needs to be well-lit without direct sunlight falling across it. | Our scan technology measures the changes of color in sub-dermal layers of the face. An evenly and well-lit face will vastly improve the detection of color under the skin. | The results generated could be inaccurate, impacting the calculation of health risks. |
| They should remove heavy makeup, eyewear, face coverings, and headwear. | Anything that impacts the ability to see those subtle changes in color will subsequently impact the accuracy of results. | Reduction of accuracy in the results. |
| **Aim for 4+ Stars** | The stars indicate how well-lit the face. The more lighting on the face, the more accurate the measurements are, therefore the higher the star rating. | 1-2 star ratings can result in a failed scan. 2-3 stars may return inaccurate results. |

### Recommended Points to Make.

- It’ll provide the most accurate results. Users can do this by meeting the guidelines above.
- They could hold their phone steady with a phone tripod, propping it up on a table against a solid object or by simply holding their phone with two hands resting their elbows on a steady surface.
- They can **breathe normally** but should remain still and within the outline.
- The scan technology uses light reflected off the skin to take a measurement, so skin tone does not impact the accuracy of the scan results.

## Example Scan Guide Designs

In the[Technology Demo App](docId\:GOb_v0J64TIXyBpak4WOL), we use a series of static images explaining how to take a great scan, however, we recommend partners create a guide using a style familiar with their users.

For example, a video or animation might better suit the demographic (language, geographic location, age group) and overall mood (fun and energetic or sober and serious).
