Supporting Your Users During a BodyScan

6min

In-Capture Support

After the capture of the front and side images, the SDK runs an image inspection. This inspection checks that the user’s face, hands and feet are in the correct place. If the inspection determines these body parts are incorrectly placed, or are missing, a contextual error message is shown. This message tells the user what is missing, allowing the user to self solve and improve their positioning for the next scan.

After a 10 second countdown, the image capture process will be attempted again. If the inspection fails twice in a row the scan process is paused, with options allowing the user to access further support mechanisms. The error screens shown to the user can be themed to your brand. You can control the color, font family, and text localization.

See Theming BodyScan for more about theming.

The Scan Guide

As intuitive as Advanced Health Intelligence's scans are, there are still some requirements for your users in order to get accurate, repeatable, and error-free scans. We recommend incorporating a Scan Guide to educate your users on how to take a scan so they have an error-free experience and get great results.

Essential Points to Make to Users:

Essential Points

Why?

What could happen if not followed?

Wear tight-fitting clothing, or as little as possible (underwear, tights, etc).

We measure everything captured within the outline, including clothing.

The measurements will not be true to the user's body. Baggy clothing causes increased measurements, including body circumference, composition, health indicators, and risks.

The device must be placed with the front camera at hips height of the user.

The user needs to fit their entire body within the outline.

The user won't be able to fit into the outline correctly. This results in a failed scan.

The device should be propped up against a solid object

The capture is designed to be completed solo, therefore the device needs to be propped up against a solid object.

The device could fall or become misaligned during the scan, increasing the failure rate.

Find an area that’s well-lit without direct sunlight falling across their body

Our image inspection needs to find key points of the body in order to successfully process the images. Poorly lit or areas much brighter than others can confuse our image inspection.

The image inspection could fail to pick up parts of the body required for a successful scan.

They should have 13ft/4m of clear space.

The user will generally need to be at a distance of 2m from their device to fit in the device. They also need to make an A pose.

The user won't be able to fit into the outline correctly. This results in a failed scan.

Recommended Points to Make to Users.

We also recommend making the following points:

  • The background should be as clutter-free and plain as possible. Avoid backgrounds that contain bright windows, intense contrasting between floors & walls.
  • For the side image capture:
    • They need to continue to look at the device, but avoid twisting their shoulders.
    • They should keep their feet together.

Example Scan Guide Designs

In theTechnology Demo App, we use a series of static images explaining how to take a great scan, however, we recommend that partner's create a guide using a style familiar with their users. For example, a video or animation might better suit the demographic (language, geographic location, age group) and overall mood (fun and energetic or sober and serious).
